Intermediate Workshop: Make a ring with cast in place gems - Wānaka - June 2025

Saturday 28 June, 2025 

Time: 1.30pm - 4.30pm 

Location: Wānaka: Wānaka Community Hub

Price: $180 + metal costs to be charged after casting. This is dependent on the size and weight of the ring (including gems) you make and could be anything from $35-$135 per ring

Wax Jewellery Class - This is an intermediate level workshop and experience with jewellers wax is necessary! You must have attended and earlier ring making workshop of mine or with someone else.

This workshop covers the designing and making of a ring using jeweller’s wax and cubic zirconia gems that will be cast into sterling silver.

During the workshop you will carve and shape your ring from a wax blank and you will learn how to set gems in place. Your wax will then be sent away to be cast into sterling silver and returned to you finished. I'll drop off to you if you live locally, or we'll arrange courier. 

In just a few weeks time, you will have your own very sterling silver ring with shiny colourful gems that you have crafted yourself!

All making materials including a few gems are provided.

What to bring:

• Ideas! Though no pressure on this side of things, we will come up with an idea that works for you.
• Rings you like to wear as a bit of inspo, for discussion and reference for sizing.
• Wear anything you’re comfy in, it’s not too messy but you don’t want to be worried about getting wax on anything special. 
• IMPORTANT! Cast in place setting is exceptionally fiddly. You must have a steady hand and will need your glasses if you have trouble seeing things up close.
• H2O drink bottle and snacks if you need.

FAQ and things to note!

• This workshop is for a the making of a sterling silver ring with a few gems only. Other metals can be discussed but will come at extra cost.
• You’re of course welcome to make a ring for someone else, however you would need to find out their size prior (Or snaffle a ring that fits them and bring this to the workshop!).
• Rings are sent away to be cast and then will be finished by me, this can take up to 2.5 weeks depending on courier delays. 
• The workshop cost covers the afternoon only. You will be charged $12 per gram of silver of your finished piece - this covers the casting costs and my time to finish your ring. Depending on the size/weight of your ring you could spend $30-$130 extra. I will guide you on this during the class. 
• The workshop runs from 1.30pm – 4.30pm, you don't have to stay on if you finish early. You will also have the opportunity to make a second ring if you have time.
• I will provide you with as much info and guidance as I can so that you can carry on making jewellery at home, if you wish. I teach to share the love of making so welcome as many questions as you have, before, during and after the workshop too.
• Class size is limited to 6 people 
• Once a workshop booking has been made, no refunds or alternate arrangements will be issued to those who cancel in the week (7 days) prior to the workshop. 
• All cancellation refunds will be less the $7 website transaction fee.
  
• A minimum of 5 attendees is required for this workshop to go ahead, if I don’t get the numbers I will cancel and provide a full refund.
